I haven't seen strong evidence on this question. I consider the legal and moral questions about holding people in jail without being convicted, and the logistical challenge of reducing the number of people held pretrial, to be more important questions.

Ending the use of cash bail will meaningfully reduce the number of people detained pretrial.
